This guide has four objectives:
Get "straight zeros" in every mission: no kills, no detections, no bodies found.
Fulfill all objectives, including nonlethal special actions and contracts.
Collect all runes, bone charms, and paintings.
I play on Very Hard difficulty, which is only available after finishing the game once. Playing on Hard isn't much different, while all other difficulty levels are substantially easier.
There are many ways to play Dishonored, all equally fun. This one is my favorite. It can be played much like a puzzle game: do the right moves in the right order and you win!
