This guide has four objectives:
Straight zeros: no kills, no detections, no bodies found.
Low chaos rating throughout the game.
Collect all runes, bone charms, and paintings.
Fulfill all objectives and Special Actions (unless conflicting with #1).
In this guide I play on the Master Assassin level, which is only available after finishing the game once. Playing on Very Hard isn't much different, while all other difficulty levels are substantially easier.
There are many ways to play Dishonored. This one is my favorite. It can be played much like a puzzle game: do the right moves in the right order and you win!

Wherein our hero attempts to recruit a most gifted polymath to the royalist cause.
Chapter 5: LADY BOYLE'S LAST PARTY
Wherein our hero infiltrates a high-society shindig in search of an influential noblewoman.
Chapter 6: RETURN TO THE TOWER
Wherein our hero strikes at the core of the conspiracy by targeting the Lord Regent himself.
Chapter 7: FLOODED DISTRICT
Wherein our hero is betrayed and forced to face the true murderer of the Empress.
Chapter 8: THE LOYALISTS
Wherein our hero rescues his allies from the traitors who had him imprisoned.
Chapter 9: THE LIGHT AT THE END
Wherein our hero deals the final blow to the anti-royalist conspiracy.
